Tongues on the sockets of electric dreams
Where the sewage of youth drowned the spark of my teens
And I knew that the lights of the city were too heavy for me
Though I carried karats for everyone to see.
And I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies
And all the lovers with no time for me.
And all of the mothers raise their babies
To stay away from me.
Name: James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, Buck
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Homosexual
Personality: Bucky is loyal, brave, honest to a fault, headstrong, resilient, and has a strong sense of justice and honor; during the 40's he was charming and a ladies man, in present times he tends to be more distant and self-contained. Bucky grew up in Brooklyn's poorer southside alongside Steve Rogers, the two of them being raised as practically brothers. Bucky was a lot bigger and stronger than Steve, and he took up for Steve constantly, protecting him whenever he could from bullies. He was also the oldest of four siblings, having three younger sisters he took responsibility for. He came from a wealthy and well to-do family, his father a prestigious general in the first World War, slain in action, which drove him to force himself to become the man of the house. He was athletic in his youth and was a star football player, but often fell behind and failed to apply himself on schoolwork, leaving most people to believe he was all brawn and no brain, which wasn't the case, simply just growing bored easily of school and academic work. Buck was a notorious girl-crazy charmer and continued that kind of behavior out of school, up until he signed on for the military just before the outbreak of World War II. He excelled in the academy and became an adept and well respected sergeant, taking responsibility for his actions and for his men, and demonstrating loyalty and wisdom beyond his years, and came back to visit home just before being deported to the front lines again. Bucky was captured and held behind enemy lines in a Hydra encampment where he was tortured upon, being rescued by Steve Rogers, the new born Captain America. Bucky fell along Steve's side off of a train and into the Italian Alps on a covert stealth mission to capture a Hydra doctor, and was believed to be dead by everyone, including his child hood friend. It wasn't until much later, in the 21st century that the identity of The Winter Soldier was discovered by Steve Rogers during a fight where Bucky was sent to murder him and take down the SHIELD agency. Bucky was held and tortured for many years, brain washed and electro shocked, his arm being replaced with the notorious vibranium arm he employs as a weapon of mass destruction, and for his own safety, and protection of those he holds dear. Bucky endured every amount of abuse you could think of, the electro shocks frying his brain again and again, removing his memories and placing him in a cooperative state as a sleeper agent, awakened by a string of words found in the Soviet Handbook. Over the nearly eighty years the Winter Soldier was active, he has been accredited with shaping the century, carrying out hundreds of political assassinations and taking out anyone deemed a threat to Hydra or their security. He was also injected with a serum that was stolen from America, the same serum that was used on Steve Rogers, but modified to make him even bigger and better, the Soviets and Hydra believing that they had found the perfect soldier. Bucky can be temporarily removed from the Winter Soldier state by simply being hit so hard on the head it knocks him unconscious, but there hasn't been a cure found for his condition yet. After the events of Steve and his first reunion, and then later on, the Civil War that broke out between the Avengers, Bucky seemed to snap completely out of his state and began to gradually recall and reclaim his memories and his sense of self, but went deep into hiding, an internationally wanted fugitive and criminal. He lives a very isolated life and keeps to himself, and lives inconspicuously deep in the mountains and foothills of Maine. He works during the weekdays as a librarian and on the weekends he typically can be found at an animal shelter. Bucky is very reserved and quiet around almost everyone, except for Steve, when they get together he can be loud and fun loving and boisterous, just like his old self. He takes on a strong responsibility for his much younger boyfriend Kyro, retaining a strong father-like instinct after years of looking after his siblings and Steve in the same way. You couldn't ask for a better friend than Bucky Barnes, his loyalty knows no bounds and he would go to great lengths to protect them, and anyone, from himself. He wants to be left alone for the most part, and will usually quickly abscond from any fights or violence unless its to protect himself or someone else in the crossfire. Bucky was left with deep emotional scars and wounds, despite being able to, for the most part, hide them from the public eye. From all the electro shock 'therapy' he endured, sometimes the neurons don't fire right in his brain and his speech becomes slurred and backwards sounding, and sometimes he isn't able to walk right or move at all on his own. He can be rather forgetful because of this too. His mind is often clouded and foggy, his eyes taking on sort of an empty or vacant stare, especially when he gets upset emotionally. He doesn't know how to cope with the trauma at all isn't able to seek help via traditional methods, so he completely shuts himself down until the pain passes. Bucky lives in a state of constant terror that someone is going to come find him and take him away, find the Soviet Handbook and read the words to him, or that he's going to hurt someone close to him. He's constantly checking over his shoulder and is always on guard, traveling with a backpack full of weapons and munitions wherever he goes. Despite everything, Bucky is alive, and determined to stay that way. He won't give up as long as there are people out there that are depending on him and that love him, even if its only two people out of the entire world. This isn't to say that he's not suicidal at all, because he's horrifically depressed and traumatized, but he's a fighter if nothing else and will continue to drag himself up by his bootstraps if that's what it takes. To help cope with his PTSD and anxiety Bucky adopted a male orange tabby cat, missing his left leg just like Bucky. Buck named him Archie after the Archie Comics, which he and Steve read a lot growing up. Bucky tries to live his life by the mantra 'to hurt thy enemy is to hurt thyself', and instead of actively combating with someone he'll simply turn and deflect their attacks back on themselves unless its a life or death situation, and has taken on a rather interesting fixation on philosophy, finding peace in it. Bucky still lives life like he's in the early 1900s for the most part, he likes his old music and his record players, his radio, but he's being introduced to and shown newer technology and rather enjoys it and is fascinated with it. Bucky can speak twelve different languages and enjoys playing the piano, guitar, and singing too.
